Damien Clark

Co-founder of the Norwich Devils American Football Club in the summer of 1984, it took 2 years to get the team in good enough shape to begin league play in 1986, where I was quarterback for the first 9 games, and running back for the last game, enjoying a 5 and 5 season. I captained the team to a National title in 1989, and have added a runners-up trophy in 2001, and two more winners’ trophies in 2002 and 2007. I was a player coach between 1993 and 2006, and continued to coach after my playing days ended in 2010 at the age of 52, whilst still holding many of the team’s game and season rushing records gained during close to 350 games. In 2013 I joined the staff at the UEA Pirates as Assistant RB coach, moving up to RB coach the next year, continuing up to the present. Also in 2013 I became part of the inaugural coaching staff of the newly formed Iceni American Football Academy, coaching the men’s and women’s kitted teams.

I’ve been a huge fan of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys since stumbling across the American Forces radio broadcast of Superbowl XII when they defeated the Denver Broncos.

My other sporting loyalty lies with the Premiership’s Chelsea FC, since watching them in the 1967 FA Cup final.

Professionally, I am a cabinetmaker and wood machinist by trade, designing, making and installing bespoke kitchen furniture of the highest quality for a local company in Wymondham, Norfolk.

As a hobby, I am singer and bass guitarist for Norwich based function band Captain Scarlet, and have performed at all of the major venues in East Anglia and beyond, for private, corporate and military clients.

Adam Copple has been involved with American football since answering a local newspaper

advert for players for a new local team, the Ipswich Cardinals, this was 1985, Adam’s playing career lasted off and on due to knee injuries and family commitments for 18 years before making the move to coaching. After moving to Norwich, Adam approached the University of East Anglia Pirates and started coaching the LB moving to DC after two years. Work and study commitments again cut short Adam’s coaching career. Adam has rejoined the UEA Pirate’s coaching the DL LB and O-line helping to make the play-off’s two of the last three. In 2015 Adam has joined the Bury Saints as Assistant O-line coach, moving to full O-line coach in 2016. Adam is level 2 BAFA and Flag Leader qualified. Adam is currently Director of coach education for British American Football Coaching Association(BAFCA).
